Alcohol awareness events at Aylesbury College

The alcohol awareness events will be held at Aylesbury College on 23 November and 13 December between 10am and 2pm.

Representatives from the Aylesbury Vale District Council, OASIS drugs action teams, Thames Valley Police, Bucks County Council and Aylesbury Women’s Aid will be on hand to talk to students about ensuring they remain safe from alcohol when they go out.

Supt George Wrigley said: “We all enjoy the festive season, and meeting friends, going out for an alcoholic drink and having fun is an important part of this.

“Clearly, we don’t want to stop this in any way. However, the police do end up dealing with a more sinister side to the celebrations.

“Every year, around Christmas time, assault, criminal damage and reports of sexual assault increase and in the majority of cases this is linked to alcohol consumption.

“These workshops are intended to make students aware of the risks they can be taking when they drink too much.

“We will not be telling anyone to stop drinking, rather explaining to them the potential consequences of getting drunk.”

The teams will be on hand to give out stubby pouches for the disposal of cigarettes and chewing gum, anti spiking bottle tops, lip balms and pens.
