About us:

This service is provided in peoples’ homes or at agreed NHS premises, or other ‘safe’ place, by the Counselling Support Worker serving Berneray, North and South Uist, Benbecula, Barra and Vatersay.

Aims & Objectives:
We aim to support individuals in
· Making lifestyle changes towards achieving alcohol and drug free lives
· Recovering from physical, mental and emotional harm to themselves and others resulting from drug/alcohol misuse
· Achieving better life quality, health and independence
· Nurturing fresh hope for a better future, and developing skills to avoid relapse and maintain recovery

Care Plans:
Service users are individually assessed and care plans tailored to their needs. They will have input into the creation, implementation and reviews of the plan.

Family Involvement:
Confidentiality is paramount, so family involvement will only be a part of the care plan where the service user expressly wishes this to be the case.

Community Involvement:
Wherever possible, the service user will be encouraged to become involved with suitable activities offered by other agencies or ongoing in the community.

Withdrawal:
This will usually take place in hospital, or at home under the supervision of a GP, CPN or Community Nurse.

Treatment Programme:
Programmes will be individually tailored, and may include the use of Rickter Scale assessments, Person Centred Counselling, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Anger Management, AA Twelve Step programme, SMART programme.

Manager:
The Service Manager works in the Lifestyle Centre in Stornoway, from where a similar service is provided to the inhabitants of the isles of Lewis and Harris.

Staff:
The Service is provided by one Counselling Support Worker working from home (thirty hours per week).

Admission:
Individuals may refer themselves, or be referred by medical staff, social workers, the police, the courts, schools, other agencies, family members or friends, Ministers or Priests.

Cost:
The service is financed by Western Isles Council, Western Isles Health Board and the local Alcohol, Drugs and Smoking Action Team. It is free of charge to service users.
