The Priory Hospital, Chelmsford
Integrated, eclectic and holistic treatment designed to specifically meet the needs of the alcoholic
About us:
Alcohol withdrawal – a sliding scale regime of chlordiezepoxide is given. If relapse occurs during treatment, there is an exclusion from the group for two days.
Alcohol treatment is integrated, eclectic and holistic: it is designed to specifically meet the needs of the alcoholic. The programme structure and intensity engender self-disipline and replicates the focussed, obsessive nature of the addict in a positive, constructive way.
The task-oriented, staged process implements visible progress to alcoholics, thereby motivating a relinquishing of the ‘sick role’ in favour of taking responsibilty for effecting change.
The Priory has psychiatrists and nursing staff trained in dual diagnosis. There is a consultation and ongoing communication with the patient’s best interests put first.
Alcohol Assessments are done by the responsible psychiatrists and/or addictions treatment programme therapist. Both of these aim to gain a comprehensive overview of the client and their problems. Validated assessment tools are used, such as cage and sassi.
