About us:
Rugby House Long Yard Detoxication & Crisis Management Centre is a unique 13-bedded scheme, which provides a full crisis intervention service for those who misuse alcohol. Many of our clients, for a variety of reasons, need a place of safety for stabilisation, a full assessment and withdrawal from alcohol as part of an overall care package.
Long Yard provides 24 hour staff cover, with one waking and one sleep-in staff during the night hours. The Long Yard program is delivered within a care home setting, with a visiting GP providing base line medical assessment on admission and ongoing support with underlying medical issues. In addition to this there is an in house Health Practitioner leading the health promotion aspect of the programme.
The supervised withdrawal from alcohol is supported by a comprehensive health and social care programme. Our staff team delivers a core group work package, which complements the individual keywork partnership, leading to the creation of personal development plans for all our clients.
Clients suitable for Long Yard are those with a dependent relationship with alcohol. By dependency we mean loss of control over drinking alcohol and arguably the process of withdrawal. It is seen as a means of getting choice back, in respect of all aspects of a client\’s life. We see our duty as aiding to make those choices better informed, whatever they may be.
Referrals are accepted from many professionals, GPs, Care Managers, Alcohol Workers, Health Visitors, Probation Officers and Supported Housing Workers etc.
Depending on a client\’s history, further information may be required in respect of medical problems, past withdrawals, history of violence and offending.
No one is automatically refused, but we will endeavour to reach an agreement on how to manage the risk areas whenever possible.
